Signature rules update
« on: November 10, 2008, 09:24:12 pm »
Due to popular demand we have implemented a bit more strict signature rules. As of now the maximum allowed signature height is 300 pixels. This should still be more than enough space to make a great signature. Though, some people have signatures that take up about an entire screen, which is simply too crazy.
Notice signature height this means the total height that your signature takes up. Every line of text and image will be included. If the total height of your signature goes over 300 pixels then a GM will modify your signature by placing it in spoiler tag.
Don't worry, your signatures will never be completely deleted, just placed in spoiler tags to prevent them from taking extra space.
The rule enforcement will be based on a screen resolution of 1024x768.

Now the SMF forums hold few handy features for making compact and good looking sigs. First of all, tabling:

Tabling is a feature which allows you to place your images and text in a certain location on your signature.
Code: [Select]

That is a basic table structure. Let me elaborate on the commands,

Code: [Select]

These two start and end a table

Code: [Select]

This starts and ends a row in your table.

Code: [Select]
This starts and end a column in your table.

Here's an example of tabling:

Sup gais I'm after the 3rd image

And here's the code for the  whole thing
Spoiler for Hidden:
Code: [Select]

Sup gais I'm after the 3rd image

Even though it might look a bit complex, tabling is pretty simple once you get the hang of it. I can always help out too if someone has problems. So as you see tabling allows me to put images to pretty much wherever I want to put them.

Another thing, you don't really need to show up your whole list of 9000 IGN's, guilds all the 6 different signatures people made to you and all that. Use spoiler tags, for example spoilering your IGN's is a very good idea, and conserves a lot of space.

So yeah, try to make your signatures acceptable in size :>
300 pixels should be plenty for all the artists to make sigs that big. Then table everything in a smart fashion and you can make very compact and good looking sigs.
