NOTES

  • You can try direct installation method if you dont have a windows machine. Just search around on how to do it.
  • Wineskin Folder can be located using Finder > Go > Home > Applications > Wine Skin
  • This method was tested only on OSX 10.11 (El Capitan) and macOS 10.12 (Sierra)
  • Play around with different resolutions. I set mine to 1152x720 (both in wine and ragnaroksetup) since I'm on a 13 inch Macbook Pro
  • You can change the Icon in the Configuration Tab
  • Graphics and text might look funny (Not the best method but it works and its free)
  • If you want to dual client or more, you have repeat the same process again
  • If you want to patch your client, just change the Windows EXE to 'RagnarokPatch.exe' and once the patching process is done, revert it back to 'TalonPatch.exe'.

Thanks for taking time to read the guide. Hope it helped you. Feel free to comment/add suggestions. Have a nice day and rok on! :)

How does it work with more than 2 clients on? I experienced that the graphics/computer-power of a Macbook isn't good enough to process more then 2 clients and it starts to heat up very fast (I use a similar program called "WineBottler"). Does your program change that?

Its just single client. You have to make a new wrapper again in order to dual client and another if you want triple client and so on. I just tried triple client on my early 2015 MBP and it runs just fine but yes it gets hot. :D Better to play on a windows machine. I just use this when I'm away from home.

i cant find wineskin 1.9.19 download anymore

check the main window of your Wineskin app. if that is not on the list, it means you already have downloaded it. if so, you skip steps1-3 and proceed directly to step 4.

The TalonRO large installer also worked fine on PlayOnMac. What also worked fine was downloading iRO and kRO and installing them / updating them via PlayOnMac, and then installing the TalonRO small installer.

What I would like to know: On what Mac are you guys playing and how is the performance if you have more than one game-client open?

I occasionally play on a 2013 MacBook Air via Wine and I get some problems when playing with more than one client, including lagging and overheating of the laptop :(

It's good on my computer. Runs smooth enough. Honestly, it's not perfect, but RO never has been. Running a free torrent of Windows 10.1 in Parallels or Bootcamp is easy as hell, and I'm installing TalonRO on Parallels now to test, but those options work better than PlayOnMac, I think :) It'll be smoother in it's native OS. PlayOnMac often has minimisation / launch issues half the time. Lag when alt-tabbing and sometimes randomly uses heaps of processing power but doesn't particularly increase performance. PlayOnMac and CrossOver are always going to have issues occurring with even their Approved games, as Mac OS constantly sees updates.

(I boost up to 2-4GB of Virtual VRAM, but the Graphics card doesn't contain much of its own :( 1 shit thing about this computer)

Crossover Games is the best WINE based Software to virtualize window games such as RO under MAC. It is constantly being develop by people who are directly involve in developing WINE itself. So running TalonRO smoothly in this virtual environment will give you the maximum native-performance compared to other wine versions.
      * version 16.2 is having an issue but being addressed now so as of the moment use CrossoverGames 16.1 and below.
      * Use only paid version. Don't blame the app if you acquire it somewhere else other than their official site
Installation procedure (works most of the time - if the launcher failed to load might aswell update talonexe.exe client using Virtualization such as Parallels and just used the flagged version. EXE will work if you have installed the dependency because talonro.exe are based on the old original exe with same dependencies):
      1. Install C++ 2008 and Visual C++ 6.0 runtime (menu/configure/install software) - Common reason why Ragnarok fail to load is because of absence of this dependency
      2. Install using the installer, this worked in other version of RO aswell because it's common. You can either use the INSTALL SOFTWARE or directly run the exe (I prefer doing the latter and manually install launchers)
      * can be buggy. So after updating using  Virtualization apps run the exe with flag then create a CG Launcher: talonexe.exe -1rag1- (also helps for easy dual clienting)
      3. Set Dinput override in WINE CONFIGURATION/LIBRARIES by adding a new override (make sure to highlight your bottle to show the wine configuration - this is for ROext feature mouse freedom to allow the mouse to move out of the window without alt tabbing)
      4. Launch RagnarokSetup.exe first which will set the resolution in the registry.
      * sometime works without this. but better to have it configure first
      5. Run the Launcher or with the flagged exe.
      6. If failed to load. Replace the dlls in system32 with the given dll version below (mfc42 and msvcrt). I can't determine the version of the dll because im using a mac at this moment.
      7. Should run now if using CG 15 to 16
      DLLs Download: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B-s_xCflOKm6UmotWnIwckVZNDQ
      Known BUGS:
      * make sure to create launchers. Most of the time CG won't be able to create launchers for this so you have to create it manually by using RUN COMMAND: Save Command as Launcher. (bugs can be encounter on later versions that you can't create a launcher with same old filename. Just try to figure it out or rename the original exe)
      * If you encounter FONT issues just try to install core fonts or ask support team. But I never had this issue under 15-16.1
      * May encounter crushes under OSX SIERRA
      * Errors in 16.2: Will create a window but won't load launcher nor the Exe. or will load the Launcher but won't load the exe. This issue is being address now by their support team after i filed a ticket Hopefully it will be fix soon. It is an issue regarding msvcrt failing.
This info is from my post in codeweaver: https://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/crossover/forum/ragnarok-online?;msg=195019
      Have a great time!
