How to get MTR results to diagnose lag

Recommended Posts

In order to help the TalonRO team find the reason behind recent connectivity issues, we require so-called "MTR Results". What this simply means is running a tool called WinMTR, letting it run and post the results here.

To do this, for starters make sure that you only run this when you are actually lagging. If that's the case, follow these steps:

  1. Download WinMTR from http://winmtr.net/download-winmtr/
  2. Open WinMTR
  3. Enter the Game Server IP address 173.234.25.34 in the Host field
  4. Let it run for at least 200 packets
  5. Recommended but not required: also run it on the Web Server IP address: 173.234.25.42
  6. Either make a screenshot or Export as Text, then post it here

And that's it! We're looking forward to the results.

Could be a routing issue from Asia to the US as it's working fine for me.

Anyway, could you post a traceroute to 173.234.25.34

I live in Buenos Aires, Argentina, have pretty good connection to practically everything from North America and also Europe, not so much Asia. Never experienced lag in TalonRO before. I think it started around the end of June, start of July~

Yeah it has been really bad for the past few days. Other people are saying it started around a week ago. Usually I have a consistent ping of ~190ms which is playable and doesn't feel like there's any major lag. But now it's filled with constant time outs and there's delay and random spikes every couple of seconds.

Just to chime in, I live in the Seattle area (and I'm pretty sure the server is in LA or something) and I'm also experiencing this. It's only 15 jumps to the server from where I live and I NEVER have lag. My friend (East Coast) and I both started having pretty bad lag starting on Sunday or Monday during last weekend. It was borderline unplayable that day. It was still lagging on Tuesday when I checked it out.

I checked at the time and my MS was fine. I'd just hit teleport and need to wait for around 2-3 seconds for the prompt to appear.

It basically started as soon as we got a lot of players after the server restart for maintenance. On Sunday, after the maintenace, I played quite a bit with only ~100 players online and it was still totally fine. Once we hit our usual 1500+ players, it started to get laggy. So late Sunday or Monday is when it started.

We need traceroutes or we can't debug anything.

A little add-on to this. Please let it run for at least 100 Packets or so. That gives a more detailed look at where the problems are happening. Obviously only use this tool when you are lagging.

Yes Seiren, I waited for like 300 packets before taking the screenshot

For the last 4~ hours I haven't experienced ANY lag at all, whatever it was it seems fixed, but then again, I'm posting an ACTUAL mtr to see the difference.

@everyone Could you do a WinMTR on the gameserver IP instead? 173.234.25.34 is the IP address. Thanks!

Only when you are actually lagging at that moment.

Could you edit your post and send a screenshot instead please.

Also, those pings look perfectly fine. I get the same results and have no lag. Please only post mtrs if you are lagging more than usual. There's always a minor lag due to how the client is coded.

Seems that the final hop to the server is consistently timing out with a lot of users. I too get a timeout on that specific hop (from the UK)
